Farmington Youth Lacrosse, Connecticut Valley Youth Lacrosse, US Lacrosse and other rule-making bodies are taking proactive steps toward the prevention of concussions on the lacrosse field and to improve the handling of such injuries among players. All FYLC coaches are instructed to remove players from play (game or practice) when any concussion-like symptoms are suspected. We ask that parents cooperate in ensuring that medical professionals are consulted whenever a concussion is suspected. We strongly believe that no youth sports endeavor is worth risking the long-term cognitive development of young boys and girls.
Farmington Youth Lacrosse requires that all participating coaches complete a Concussion Recognition and Awareness course offered by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Farmington Youth Lacrosse encourages players to complete the IMPACT Concussion Baseline test (available to players age 11 and older). Reduced cost testing is offered through Elite Sports Medicine before the start of our season. This test provides important neurocognitive information that can help medical professionals determine when it is safe to return to play after a diagnosed concussion.
